What We Do

The Autonomous Bodies Section of the Department of Sports deals with all financial, administrative, and legal matters relating to its autonomous bodies. It provides budgetary support, processes proposals, and ensures compliance with Government rules and regulations. The Section oversees governance, coordination, and policy implementation of these bodies. It also handles Parliament-related matters, audit observations, and legal cases pertaining to the autonomous organizations.

Roles and Responsibilities of Autonomous Bodies Section

Autonomous Bodies Section is responsible for handling, inter-alia, the following important matters:

  1. Matters related to Sports Authority of India (SAI): The Department of Sports oversees all financial, administrative, and legal matters of SAI, including budgetary support, governance, and policy oversight.
  2. Matters related to National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA): The Department of Sports handles financial, administrative, and legal issues of NADA and provides oversight for effective implementation of anti-doping programmes.
  3. Matters related to National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL): The Department of Sports manages financial, administrative, and legal matters of NDTL and supports its functioning and regulatory compliance.
  4. Matters related to National Centre for Sports Science and Research (NCSSR): The Department of Sports looks after financial, administrative, and legal affairs of NCSSR and facilitates its role in sports science and research.
  5. Matters related to All India Council of Sports (AICS): The Department of Sports handles administrative matters related to AICS and supports its advisory role in sports policy.
