The Section serves as the nodal point for coordinating activities and policies related to the following key areas:

  1. Olympic Games 2036: Coordination of all preparatory and strategic initiatives concerning India's bid for hosting the Olympic Games 2036, including inter-ministerial coordination, liaison with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), and engagement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
  2. Major International Sporting Events: Oversight and facilitation of India's participation in major global and continental sporting events such as the Commonwealth Games (CWG), Asian Games, BRICS, SCO, BIMSTEC, and other recognized international competitions.
  3. International Cooperation in Sports: Formulation and implementation of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and bilateral/multilateral agreements with foreign governments and international sports bodies.
  4. Bilateral and Multilateral Engagements: Planning and execution of high-level bilateral and multilateral meetings with foreign counterparts in the sports domain.
  5. Liaison with International Bodies: Maintenance of institutional linkages with international organizations such as the IOC, Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), and other relevant global sports governing bodies.
